Leaving a Mark

VOCM Radio

A teacher at Memorial University has planted a Newfoundland and Labrador flag atop the highest peak in North America - Mount McKinley. TA Loeffler, a kinetics and recreation professor, turned 40 at 17,400 feet and had a birthday she will never forget. The 31-day, 100-mile climb ended at the summit, 34,000 feet up. Loeffler says she's the first woman from Newfoundland and Labrador to successfully climb the highest peak in North America. She and the 13 others in the group trekked through snow 20 days out of 31 and endured temperatures ranging from minus 34 C to plus 30 C.
