Read some of the encouraging words others have written to TA.

WOW
Hi TA, I hope that all is well with you and that you have been having a great summer. I finally was able to sit down and read your book while I was on vacation and I had to drop you a line to thank you for sharing this wonderful story with all of us. I started the book on my plane ride home and instantly I knew it was going to be one of those reads that I wouldn’t be able to put down until it was all finished. Your book was one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of reading. The honesty and descriptive writing was truly inspiring. Your book made me laugh; cry and more often then I sat reading in total awe of you. You’re an inspiration through your passion and determination. I remember being at Natalie’s once and you joked that TA stood for totally awesome, after reading your book I will forever think of TA being short for truly amazing. Congratulations on all that you have accomplished, you have so much to be proud of. I look forward to witnessing all the greatness you will achieve in the future as I got a feeling your only getting started. Thanks again for taking the time to recount your story and enabling people like myself to share in your journey. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Take care, Jenn

Thank you
For every time I make an excuse or tell myself I can't, I will think of your journey to Everest and make it a stark/inspirational reminder that there are typically never any "good" excuses and to replace any thoughts of "can't" with can and will. After I finished your book, my husband asked if you were a better writer or speaker/presenter (I have heard you present at several MUN events). My reply - "She excels at both." TA I haven't met you personally, but your words (spoken and written) are far-reaching. Thank you for bringing my everest to a place where I utilize your words and experiences to push my own limits daily. Keep up the great work!

More than a Mountain
Just this minute finished reading your book. I've read so many books about Everest and am fascinated by the people who go to climb Everest. I love your book most of all for it's honesty and it truly is inspiring. You have such an ability to reach people and honor that we all have our own Everest quests. Your book is one I will turn to again and again. I'll be following your adventures and I may be wrong but in my heart I believe you will one day summit the big one. Your wisdom will stay with me everyday!!!!

Everests All Round
Hi TA! I was one of the throng that listened to your recent speech at the CAUCUSS conference at MUN, and read your book cover-to-cover while returning home to Alberta. Your journeys/stories are truly an inspiration. I did not have an athletic bone in my body until 5 years ago, when I decided to try running as an "Everest" for my 40th birthday. Needless to say, I went slowly at first but quickly began to see myself and my place in the world in a new light. I remember your talk starting with,What's Your Everest? In just over a month, my family and I are going to enter a race called the Canadian Death Race, and my stage is climbing Mount Hamel (combo. of walk/run). While it's not an Everest summit, it is my Everest nonetheless. Keep up the excellent work. When post-run finances are in, I plan on making a donation. In the meantime, I'll keep checking your site when my own fears start to creep in. Gratitude to you until then...Rhonda

You women are absolutely wonderful. I'm glad you have computer access now. You are an inspiration to many. Everywhere I have been since Saturday, everyone has been so excited that you made it. Can't wait to see the pictures of Leslie seeing the giraffe.

The thought of a Kilimanjaro climb holds a special memory for me - I've been following you in spirit
TA, et al...Congratulations. My beautiful daughter Jessica started a fund raising idea at her boarding school in Northern Ireland....she was going to climb Kilimanjaro with some friends to raise money for charity - a children's charity - she didn't care which one. The thousands of pounds (Stirling) she'd require for the trip didn't dampen her plans - she planned and discussed sponsorship options and was convinced (at least) financially it was feasible. She was pumped! Then she attended an information session to see exactly what was necessary for the physical input as opposed to strictly financial and she realized that her stamina would need more input than her favourite sport could provide. Jessica was a Olympic standard shopper and that was the sum total of her physical endurance requirements. In her own way, Jessica reached her Kilimanjaro without ever touching the soil of the base camp – I was grateful to be able to follow you up the summit she had once attempted (in spirit at least), this climb held a special place in my heart because of Jessica’s wishes. Great accomplishment again Congratulations – I look forward to our hike in September. PS. I consumed your book in the first reading and leave it on my coffee table to temp others to run to the book store and get their copy.

They won the cup - series 4 games to 2. Gary Bettman NHL commissioner, handed the cup to the team captain, NicKlaus Lidstrom, who handed it off to Danny Cleary. Very proud moment for every Newfoundlander and Labradorian. Diane, Gary wrote an email several times now, but I think they have been going to a personal email account and not a message that you would have access to. He says that at 50, although you may feel over-the-hill, you don't have to literally go over-the-hill. In the meantime, I am completely envious, have the time of your life. All the best on your continued journey. Can't wait to see how you all are tomorrow. Take Care Sherry

Just finished the book
Hi TA, I just finished reading your book last night. It was awesome!! I was so interested in your whole story. I couldn't believe you went through so much adversity on your journey to Everest. I know I would have given up long before you did!! lol Congratulations on your great book and on many successful climbs! As you said, success is not measured on reaching the summit. You had mcuh success and fullfilment from what I read!! I could only wish to have so much in a lifetime!! You truly are an inspiration and should be proud of your accomplishments for sure. Keep up the awesome work and dedication and I wish you much luck and success on your future Everests!!

JackieMonday, May 26, 2008 10:47:44 AM
Hey TA,
Just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to meet with the Guiding Units here in C.B.S. As I suspected, you made a huge impact and my daughter hasn’t stopped chatting about your presentation. Actually, she did a Discover Scuba course at the pool in Field House this past week and made a point of locating your office so she could check out the prayer flags. I know you receive a lot of emails about how you have touched people and propelled their sense of value and potential but I fell whether you receive one email or one hundred, it is essential that you realize the impact you have on people simply by sharing, laughing and caring. When you can reach a young person, and in this case young ladies who are going through that awkward stage of trying to figure out who they are and where they fit in, and make them understand their importance in our world and the heights they can achieve.........well, that is really something special. You truly have a gift....one that is appreciated by many of us. So safe travels, and to coin your phrase “Climb high, Climb far”. My daughter and I will be tracking the WOKies progress online.

Inspriration and Beyond
TA, I just finished your book and it was everything that I had hoped for and more. It is hard to express in words what a pleasure it is to have shared a small part in your Everest just by reading your adventure. I've never really faced great adversity just day to day average stuff, and I have yet to discover any dream or ambition. Someday I know that if I just listen to my inner thoughts it will arrive and I will recognise and embrace it. You are an inspiration to everyone. When you made the decision to treasure your health as a sacrifice to your dream (at least for now) I shed tears for your courage and your determination. I wish you the best in all your future "Everests" and look forward to being able to attend one of your presentations.

More than a Mountan
Hi TA, Rose & I just finished reading your book and we wanted to send our congratulations to you. The title "More than a Mountain" - is very fitting. We were truly inspired and want to let you know that it was a very good read. Thanks for taking the time to write & publishit! Marlene & Rose

Thank you
Hi there TA, I just had to write you.............to say Thank you......Thank you so much for sharing your experiences in your book "More than a Mountain: One Woman's Everest". It moved me......completely! It is so true when you say that everyone has their own Everest, so so true. I have to admit that I have never contacted any author from any book I have read but I felt compelled to write to you to express my gratitude. The dates you mentioned in your book were significant to me as well, as I was climbing my own personal mountain as well.......something that changed me forever and as you put it just put the world in a whole different light. What a role model you are and a strong person. The greatest of luck to you in everything that you do!

DebMonday, May 19, 2008 6:09:16 AM
Thanks from our School
TA I meant to write earlier just to let you know that the staff are still taking about you. What a presentation. They are all so inspired by you that they are speechless. You are truly an inspirational by ALL. I knew it and know it I am just so happy that others feel the way I do. You have a special talent and are truly infectious when you speak. ENOUGH Said. You were great TA. We all loved it.

LouiseWednesday, May 14, 2008 9:45:28 AM
Thank you
Dear TA You are an inspiration to everyone you touch, in particular to all women and anyone who have their own “Everest” to climb, whether that being physical or spiritual. Your determination, preparation and the obstacles you encountered along your journey were amazing. It had to be unbelievably hard to make the decision to leave the mountain without reaching the top. However it didn’t seem to dampen your spirit and belief in yourself. You are truly a remarkable person and again an inspiration to everyone who has those “big dreams and big goals”. It was a privilege and an honor to have you as our guest speaker at the East Coast Trail Volunteer Event April 27, 2008. Your presentation was enjoyed by everyone and was the highlight of the day! Thank you again for sharing your journey with us and for motivating us to move ahead with our dreams and goals. Your spirit and footprints remain on the mountain awaiting your return!

NancyTuesday, May 13, 2008 7:03:09 PM
Enjoyed your book
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Your struggle with the decision to leave Everest was so poignantly described that I truly shared your pain. I think I have a much greater appreciation of the mental anguish you experienced as you battled the physical symptoms of illness. I will never climb a mountain, I may never have the pleasure of knowing another mountain climber but I have known many people who have taken on their own 'Everest' and who need inspiration from people like you to take on their challenges (over an over if necessary), one step at a time. Nancy

Just finished your book
TA, I finished your book this morning - while sunning by the pool! I don't know if I can put into words how your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual journey has touched me. The description of your emotions is moving. Mental visualization and emotional connection for your reader is profound - I felt as if I was stepping once and breathing once, as you were doing this same. I know nothing of the Buddhitst teachings, but felt a sense of calmness when reading your descriptions of the convents, prayer wheels and chants. Your dedication to everything you do is amazing - I don't have enough mental strength to commit to starting a running program or finding time to walk my dog regularly - but now, I have someone to inspire me...I have someone's unbelieveable dedication tucked in my mind, to drive me to achieve "My Everest", however small it may be!

MeganFriday, April 25, 2008 8:35:06 AM

Thanks TA
Hi TA, Your book arrived today.....thank you so much, I am thrilled to have it. I also want to say how much I appreciate being included in your acknowledgements....I have never been formally acknowledged in a book before and I’m pleased as punch to see my name in print. I absolutely LOVE the cover photograph.....it brought tears to my eyes thinking of all you went through to be there. It’s just beautiful. I can only imagine what you must be feeling seeing your book in print and holding it in your hands. Receiving your book in the mail today was perfect. This morning I checked MyEverest site and realized they were shutting down all communications from the expeditions currently at EBC and I was so disappointed. Now, I have the perfect antidote.....your book. I am just so glad this didn’t happen last year when I was so glued to your daily updates. I don’t think I could have managed to get through a whole month of not knowing what was happening to you. I have to run now, I have some reading to do!! Thanks again TA.

IrisSunday, April 13, 2008 4:52:41 PM
Bottom to top
Well TA, I simply must tell you that I am having some problems reading your book. This is probably because I am so interested in your story that I often read the bottom of the pages first to see what happens, then return to the top of the page...I just can't get through it fast enough! :) I am going to have to hurry because if it comes down to a choice between reading your book and studying for finals,....I may be in the PE program longer than anticipated! Again, congrats! p.s. I LOVED the vanilla dip's (sorry, Velma's) excursion!

JenSunday, April 13, 2008 4:51:52 PM
Wow
Been reading the book....I'm speechless....I find myself reading the words, but feeling as if I'm experiencing each footstep on the mountains, seeing all the sights, and hearing all the sounds. At times I find myself so caught up in what I'm reading I'm holding my breath and very tense. The way you describe the scenes and your emotions is captivating.

JessSunday, April 13, 2008 4:50:08 PM
Not during finals
It was definitely a mistake to buy your book DURING EXAM TIME, when I should be studying... I bought yesterday it thinking "I'll read it on the plane ride in two weeks"... and then I fell asleep reading it. Now I've started... I can't stop. It's great TA. In this last semester, reading all the messages from Kili Karuna, your presentation, class, and now this book, you have definitely inspired me to figure out my everest and go after it. Reading what you have (and are) going though and how you conquer things definitely helps me in my life. I've definitely made changes in my life and in myself and it's because of the things you do and say... so i can't wait to get to the next part of the book. I'm definitely buying it for others close to me. I think it is a wonderful book that will inspire many people. Excellent Job!

MichelleSunday, April 13, 2008 4:27:07 PM
Congrats!
I finished your book this morning and I was sad that I had come to the end, I wanted to read more! As I read your book I laughed and cried. You truly have a gift for touching people and inspiring us to appreciate life and to believe in ourselves always. Congrats!!

ChristineWednesday, March 19, 2008 7:58:45 PM
JA Thanks You
On behalf of the 130 high school students who attended the Junior Achievement Atlantic Conference I want to thank you for sharing your story and inspiring them to find their Everest. Of all the weekend activities, your presentation spurred the greatest reflection and ranked off the chart in excellence. Delegates have even set up a facebook page looking to others to share their Everest. Thank you for helping all of us bring our dreams into focus. Best of luck on your pursuits.

Thanks TA
In February 2008 the Office of Student Recruitment, Memorial University, hosted two information sessions for prospective students and their parents on Memorial’s St. John’s campus. We had the privilege of having TA Loeffler as a guest speaker who titled her presentation to the groups “Accept the Invitation”, which was so fitting for our audience. TA was able to relate her life experiences to these students and parents as they accepted the invitation to take on a new challenge at University. As we spoke to guests after these sessions they told us how inspiring TA was and she really eased students’ minds about coming to University. As a National and International award wining faculty member of Memorial University TA exemplifies student centered teaching methods and makes students excited about learning. We would like to have TA speak at all of our events as she is truly an inspiration to all! Thank you again TA so much. Andrea Burry, Senior Student Recruitment Officer, Office of Student Recruitment, Memorial University of Newfoundland

Hi TA! Very recently I had the pleasure of attending your session during Leader Forum 2008. Like everyone else, I really enjoyed it and was glad to hear your interesting thoughts. I look forward to participating in other events you may be involved in at MUN in the future. Also, I wish you the best of luck in your upcoming adventures and will be keeping my eyes peeled for your book due out in April. Like other students, I want to thank you for sharing your experiences with us and being a genuinely outstanding member of the Memorial community. And even though I may not know the secret of what TA stands for yet, for me it stands for Totally Awesome!

I just wanted to say that I saw one of your presentations last semester in my HKR class and I LOVED it. Any normal presentation, you zone in and out, but you kept my attention the whole time - I don't think I blinked. All I could think of was wow. You had so much determination, so much training, went through so much to climb Everest. You had me in tears at happy and sad parts. I just wanted to say congrats on all your hard work and actually making it as far as you did. Maybe one day you'll make it to the top :)

MatthewSaturday, February 23, 2008 6:28:40 PM

Hello, I would just like to say you are an amazing speaker. I was one of the delgates at the JAAC 2008 conference at the Holiday Inn on Febuary 16th. It was such an amazing speech. It was so inspirational. I loved it. I bought a set of the prayer flags. Every time I see them it reminds me off your speak and in turn inspires me to seek my own goals, climb my own Everest. I can't wait for your book to come out.

Debbie WebberFriday, February 22, 2008 5:39:17 AM
You were Great!
On February 17th, Dr. T A Loeffler was the Guest Speaker at our Baden Powell Brunch, an annual event that celebrates the Girl Guide and Boy Scout movement throughout the world and our event was attended by many of the Guide and Scout leaders of the Metro St. John’s area. In organizing this event, I was responsible to find and book an appropriate guest speaker...someone who could relate to our organization and its ideals and goals. I had heard of TA through various forms of media which ultimately lead me to her website. The same website I revisited on many occasions to track TA’s progress in summating Mount Everest. I became very inspired by her and thought who better to speak to our group than Dr. T A Loeffler. As Girl Guide and Boy Scout leaders, we hope to inspire the youth in our organization to set goals and to do their best in everything they undertake. We want them to see that nothing is unobtainable. With hard work and perseverance our possibilities are unlimited and, although sometimes we may not reach our goal, the journey is often the most rewarding and educational part of the experience. When TA began to speak, I knew I had made the perfect choice. Her humorous and down-to-earth personality immediately engaged the entire group. This petite woman exuded an inner strength that is truly remarkable. She showed by her own example that we are capable of anything we want to do or be. Sharing the story of her experiences, she reinforced the ideals of our organization - everyone has something special to give, and by pushing ourselves to step outside our normal comfort zone we can achieve amazing heights personally, professionally and within our organization. She emphasized that our leadership roles afford a wonderful opportunity to transfuse our groups with this same enthusiasm for life and the ideal of our best self. This year, by promoting TA as the guest speaker, the attendance at the Brunch was at a maximum and I am already looking at the possibility of having her speak at another upcoming event. TA has a wonderful talent to lift spirits and energize her audience. This was evident in the number of emails I received after the event from those in attendance who were both impressed and delighted that they had the chance to hear her speak. I would highly recommend TA Loeffler as a speaker for any group that needs to be inspired, recharged and reminded of how truly remarkable we all are. Wahoo!
I am very excited about your book and am proud to say that I have not only met you in person (because you are becoming somewhat of a celebrity figure), but have been able to experience your teaching talents and your ability to motivate people beyond belief. Thank you very much and good luck in all of your upcoming adventures. Allison

Hi TA, I want to extend another big THANKS for presenting to my cadet unit last night. Everyone really enjoyed your talk, and the pictures were fantastic! The cadets came up to me afterwards raving about your presentation...it was good to see a renewed spark in a lot of them. You are doing a wonderful thing by speaking to the youth of this province...they are so impressionable. Christa

Everest
I was glad to see some notes from you again. Consider one copy of your book sold, i can't wait. I have been following climbs via the Everest.com for the past 4-5 years but your updates added so much to it this year. I have a question: and i am sure you are asked many times, though I am unsure if you know the answer yet. Will you be going back?

TA, We have been keeping up with your daily updates. Hope you get back to good health before too long. Keep us posted because we are really looking forward to your June visit. Any idea when that could possibly be? Advertised did an article on our PE challenge to get Flat Stanley up the wall Mount Everest. Will keep a copy for you. Sharon

Congrats!!
Welcome home T.A.!! I really wanted to make it to the airport to see you in but couldn't swing it. I wanted to see you and thank you for your compassion, strength and courage. Everything you did from building the inukshuk for Michael to making the difficult decision to come home was truly extraordinary. You should be so proud of everything you've done! -Karla

Ke Garne?
Hi TA, Regretfully I haven't been tuned in to you summit attempt, although I've been with you in spirit and we mention you among mutual friends out this way in Vancouver. (Christina and I talk about you from time to time and wonder how it's all going) However, during a recent phone call to Mom back in St. John's one morning she interuppted me to listen to either an interview with you or a news story about how you had to abondon the attempt for now because of giardia. Too bad! I'm so sorry to hear this and my heart goes out to you. I'm sure this is more than disappointing for you but I'm sure it's the right choice. As you say, Everest will still be there waiting for you. As they say in Nepali "Ke Garne" which, as you know, means 'It cannot be helped." Useful saying, that. I trust Thamel is relaxing and restorative for you in this time of recovery? Ha! She thinks not. It reminds me of that old Paul Simon song. Bone Digger Bone Digger, Get these mutts away from me. I don't find this stuff amusing anymore... (or something like that anyway) I hope you make it home safely and in good health. So I'll take a glass of purified water and take a drink to your health, m'dear. Glad you're alive to tell the tale! Hugs, Lisa

Congratulations
Hey T.A just wanted to congratulate you on all your success. You are an extrodinary person, And definatly someone to look up to. Your speech that you did in my school December 7th in GFW really inspired me. You taught me so much, And I just wanted to thank you for all your words of encouragement. Meeting you was a great honor. Take care and I hope to be hearing from you soon :)

Have a Safe Trip Home.
My son, with his class had been following your travels. Peter Luc has been also checking you out with Muggs at the Children's Rehab. He convinced her he wouldn't tell if she would tell him the name which was denoted by TA. He was sorry to hear you had to leave the mountain, but impressed at your journey to date. To him you are the greatest adventurer. His sister (killed in December 2005) was his first hero - she jumped from perfectly good planes and had plans to climb Kilimanjaro (an incredible feat for our Jessica as she thought perspiration was a dirty word). We're confident there will be a welcoming party at the airport on your arrival back to the island - if there is room - I'm sure Peter Luc would be honoured to be holding a flag to welcome you back safely. Thank you for the adventure. Jeannette & Peter Luc Holman-Price

You've acomplished so much!!!! Be proud!!!!!!!
Hello TA! I'm sorry about not beging able to continue Everest-007, but whe nyou think about it, you've acomplished so much! I mean.. I don't think many people would even consider climbing Mt. Everest. Which means you must be a very hard and determained women, which is also pretty cool. Even though you didn't get to complet the climb, a brave, and if I may say so, daring women such as yourself will positively find another chance to climb Mt. Everest. PS- I hope you feel better soon !

FranMonday, May 07, 2007 10:50:49 AM
Heck of a diet plan!
TA. You forgot the diet plan on your top 10! what a way to do it though! This weekend I went camping and left because of the MANY ticks . MANY MANY ticks. You, at least, left for an illness! Life is short, and long. Many adventures await you. You made a very wise decision and I am PROUD of you!!! Take care! Fran

You are our hero!
TA- we have been following your journey and are so inspired by your dedication to your purpose! You are a wonderful role model for us as experiential educators and outdoor leaders. We send you our biggest hugs, warmest wishes, and safest thoughts.

You are "Totally Awesome!"
Dear T.A., It has been such an adventure for us, reading your daily up-dates. We continue to light a candle each day and I really look forward to talking to you when you get home. Love your pal, Laurie

Be proud
TA Be proud of everything you have done and of your ability to focus on the important things.( your health). Everest will be there long after this season and you are very young. Many other climbers have needed multiple attempts to get close to the summit. Thinking of you and how disappointed you must feel as you go back down. Take care of yourself ! Fran

PaulaWednesday, May 02, 2007 9:58:49 AM
You HAVE impressed me much
I have just recently started reading your updates from Everest and I can't imagine the turmoil that you are feeling...but can I just share one insight that I have of your situation as a young mother who has been talking to her son about you and your amazing journey. Something that I want to teach my son is that sometimes success is being able to sit back and re-evaluate you plan. The answer isn't always the easy one...if it is about drugs, if it is about peer pressure, a dangerious relationship... or if it is about giving yourself permission to be human. With the very hard and disappointing choices we all know there is new strength and a beauty that we find. Good luck with your choices....you have such a great network of family and friends - you have accomplished so very much!

FranMonday, April 30, 2007 8:09:09 PM
be tuff sister
Dear TA There is a reason for everything. Truly. Be tough, give your body a chance to recover, be kind to yourself. ( not only physically but mentally and spiritually as well). Many people are behind you, supporting you, hoping and praying for you. Just go with the flow, it will work out OK.... Fran

I am so proud of you!
Hi TA! WOW...you're on Mount Everest! Yahoo! I am so proud of you, and so inspired by your climb. What a joy it is to read your wonderful and often witty or moving updates, and also how beautiful it is to read messages of how you have inspired others. If part of your "Road to Everest" was to inspire people, especially youth, then mission accomplished in that department! I'm sure I don't need to tell you what an amazing impact you've had on the lives of so many thus far on your journey; there's a lot of buzz in this city about you...you've got plenty of excited Newfoundlanders behind you, and I'm honoured these days just to say I've met you (you have star status haha)! I was joking with friends the other day about how you were in that Running Room clinic of mine many years ago, and the expression "I knew her when she started out" came to mind, and they all teased me not to flatter myself with once being a part of your training which has clearly led you very far! Self-flattery aside, I fondly remember many runs with you, and am inspired by how far your training and determination has taken you. Also, I was moved by your beautiful tribute to Michael...I knew him through a close friend, and I know your words touched those close to him. And my sympathies to you and those with you on the mountain regarding Dawa Sherpa's death, I know this must have been devastating. You are a strong and inspiring woman, and I know this whole experience will strengthen you even more, and the lives of so many whom you inspire. Stay positive (as you are so good at doing) and be safe, and know you have a lot of fans and support back home, all thinking of you! Wishing you the best way up there, -emilie

Hi T.A.; It is wonderful to read about your adventure in person and to absorb the "inspiration" messages from everyone regarding your adventure. I am sure that "all hands" would agree that one of the most lasting impressions that you will make on young and old alike during your expedition is that you are wise in the decisions you make surrounding your safety. Thus I encourage you to be wise in your risk taking thus providing those who you inspire with the a message that will inspire them to do the same when attempting such feats. I suspect there is a fine line mentally between the importance of the success in reaching the top and your security. I do recognize that this kind of trek is not for the "faint of heart" and that not everything works out according to training plans and accepted climbing tactics. Am sure your experiences to date on various mountains has reinforced your concept that success is indeed "about the journey and the learning that comes with every step" regardless of it is going up or down the mountain on that journey. Best wishes! GO FOR IT ... however, please do your best to always remember your criteria for success. Bill Redden St. John's

Amazing Journey
Reading your updates makes me think of how we need to remind ourselves how strong we are even in the face of adversity or overwhelming difficulties. Even when life throws us a curve ball we need to rely on our inner strength that only seems to be tapped into when we really need it and often don't even realize we have. It is inspiring to read that although you have prepared for months both physically and mentally you are experiencing complications that are doig just that: testing your strength. The inspiring thing for me is that you are working through it. It reminds us all that even when things get tough it is important to dig deep and find your own personal strength to see you through. Someone once told me that it isn't a good thing to wish someone 'Good Luck' because it suggests that you would need luck to succeed. So I will wish you all the best as you continue your mental and physical trek up Everest!

Bob BanfieldFriday, March 30, 2007 7:50:51 PM
Keep on Climbing !
Hi. I shared your site with some of my Geography classes at Holy Heart today. They were excited to learn of your progress since your visit to our school not so many weeks ago. The most recent entry (March 30) was of great interest. I projected the site on screen and read the text - often relating my own similar thoughts and experiences during my cross-Canada cycling trip in the summer of 2005. I couldn't help but feel as though my adventure - while difficult and challenging at times - was a luxury compared to your present moment. What a thrill to see you making it one step at a time. :-) Be assured that we will continue to track your progress. We are with you in mind and spirit. God Bless and keep on climbing. Bob Banfield - Holy Heart, St. John's, Newfoundland

Thank you
Hi TA. I have two daughters. One, the oldest, has a LD, the other is advanced. They don't have heroes. The younger was completing a Brownie Badge about inspirations, heroes. She didn't have a hero or anyone that inspires her. I had to admit, I didn't either. I'm a qualified nature nut, I'm 39 years old and I now have a hero whom I can't wait to tell my daughters about. Best of luck to you. All my hopes and prayers are with you. Please visit Grenfell College some day. I'd love to be one of the lucky ones to meet her hero. You are indeed an inspiration. Keep smiling, keep believing. All my hopes!!! Linda.

It must be a great time doing all that stuff. Do learn something new about where you're traveling everyday? I looked on google maps of mount everest and google earth. I was wondering from what side are you tackling everest on North, South, East or West? Do you have your Eighties music with you so you can listen while you are resting?

Very Much Inspired and In Awe
Hi T. A. I am a teacher a Holy Trinity Elementary in Torbay, You came to do your power point presentation at my school in February. Our students were fascinated by you and inspired by your message. I was very impressed. We will follow your trip to Mount Everest hopefully . We have received a huge number of your postcards and have mounted a small display on our wall of Everest and the trek route......based on the photography from the Virtual Tour on the National Geographic Site.....that is sOOOOO cool. We wish you all the very best in your adventure and in bringing the Newfoundland flag to the top of Everest....totally amazing.!!!!!!!!!! Thanks T. A. I am a patriotic Newfoundlander....born and bred , but I would never be able to accomplish what you did when you lifted the Pink White and Green historic Newfoundland flag to the top of Aconcagua. Very Impressive....Did you manage to sell the flag on ebay? I also admire your abilities as an educator...... Best Wishes Hope we meet again. My Last Advice
Don’t get hurt this week. You’re in great shape and you’ll have a week on the approach so don’t kill yourself this week. Don’t tweak anything and stay away from people with the sniffles. No one cares how fast you got from BC to C1 or C3 to the South Col. No one will ask you how much you carried to high camp. The first question they will ask when you return is “Did you make it”? Don’t be afraid to come down to BC to rest. You don’t recoup much at 21,000 ft. It’s not that hard to come back to base to rest. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. My guess is that you have plenty of each. All the best.

Good Luck
I am just emailing to say good luck. I am a first year student at Memorial. Since your first presentation in my HKR 2000 class last semester, I have been following your updates on the website. Yesterday I was a participant at leader forum and I just absolutly love your presentations. Although I have no desire to climb Mt. Everest, I am an outdoor enthusiast. You have inspired me in so many ways and I am beginning to realize that I too have a 'pufferfish'. I wish the very best to you and your team on your ascent. I will be following your updates and keeping you in my thoughts until you return to Newfoundland. Good Luck, and congratulations on everything thus far!

How I will Remember
You've told how some people plan on remembering you while you journey to the 'TOP', as a displaced Newfoundlander, I have my NL licence plate on the wall. Each day when I look at it, I will remember what you are doing and will send a smile and a warm hug through cyberspace to ensure your safe climb and return. All the best of luck, stay well and feel the support from hundreds....

Thanks so much for your answers
TA, Thanks so much for your interview answers, they are great and I am sure will inspire even more people to reach for their own Everest. I am most impressed with your overall attitude and commitment to both your own development as well as sharing it with so many. Please know that you will be in my personal thoughts for the next two months, as I am sure you will be in so many others. That said, also please, please remember and know in your heart that the effort to get to Everest and to take on the summit is a victory in itself. In spite of your final results you have touched so many people. Please climb safe, my friend. Alan

Hi TA!
You spoke at my school yesterday afternoon, and I have to say.. what a presentation you gave. I felt so inspired throughout the whole time, and I took in everything that you said. Even the teachers in my school are so happy to have met you. You should be very proud of yourself.. you have accomplished more already, than a lot of people do in a lifetime. Good luck on this upcoming trip to Mount Everest. You're in our thoughts and prayers.

Hey Ta!
I first learned of your daring adventure when you proceeded with a very interesting and educational speech at my school. I learned many wonderful tips when reaching ones goal and the ups and downs that come along with it. You've made me realize that even the biggest dreams are within arms length, you just have to have the will power and force to drive you to the top of the mountain. You have completed so much and travelled to various places just by doing something that you love and for that, I applaud you. I'm unsure of what I'm going to study next year but I know that it has to be something that I'm passionate about and that involves travelling. By having you come into my school and embracing the student body with your positive attitude, warm smile and encouraging words, you truly had a great impact on both the students and teachers. People are still wowed by what your attempting but I know that you'll be able to reache your peak and be able to wave that flag proudly, just like you have done on so many other occassions. I've also learned that your a professor at Mun, what do you teach? I'm sure your classes are both engaging and surreal. And remember, if you ever get discouraged, just remember about all the training you did for this trip, all the people behind you rooting for you to accomplish this and of course, a huge plate of brownies and a vanilla dip just waiting to be eaten when you reach sea level again. I wish you luck on your adventure and for the many more after that!! GOOD LUCK!! Keep your spirits high and your energy endless!!

Hi TA,
Two weeks ago I was not not even aware you existed, let alone your mission statement to inspire the youth of our beautiful province. As a recently retired school teacher, I commend you, and wish you a successful trip. I will be following your progress on Everest. I am amazed at how your story has affected me. I realize that for 56 years I have done what I've had to do and had no idea how to do what I want to do. I think now I have a direction. I plan to become involved with Team Diabetes. I'll keep you in my prayers and look forward to meeting you when you return.
