TA'S EVEREST-007 ITINERARY

Where on Everest is TA? See TA’s itinerary below for where she expects to be for the first month of the expedition. Some parts of the climb will unfold depending on weather, health, fitness, and movement of the expedition team. Check the Everest Updates page for the latest news from the mountain.

Mar 17-18 TA departs St. John's for Nepal - flying over the Atlantic and through Qatar.
Mar 19 Arrive Kathamndu and settles back into Nepal.
Mar 20 TA meets the rest of the Expedition and Trekking team.
Mar 21 Free day to explore Kathmandu's rich and diverse culture, including the Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath, and Swayambunath, the Monkey Temple.
Mar 22 Fly to Lukla in STOL aircraft or helicopter; meet the Sherpa support team and begin the trek to Base Camp with a short hike to Phakding on the Dudh Kosi River.
Mar 23 Hike to historic Namche Bazaar at 11,300 ft. where Nepalese and Tibetan traders exchange salt, dried meat, gold and textiles; explore Namche's village, Sherpa museum and markets.
Mar 24 Acclimatization day in Namche; relax and explore the village, or make a hike to Thame, several hours up the valley, to see the monestary and the village.
Mar 25 Day hike to Khumjung and Khunde, visit hospital and Hillary school.
Mar 26 Climb to Tengboche; vistas of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam.
Mar 27 Acclimatization day in Tengboche area; visit Monastery, attend ceremonies. Rhododendrons will be blooming in this area.
Mar 28 Hike via Pangboche to Dingboche at 14,450 ft. Follow the River to a large Sherpa village up the valley, at the foot of Ama Dablam. Visit Pangboche monastery.
Mar 29 Acclimatization day in Dingboche; day hike up the Imja Khola valley to Chukung. Dingboche is a "warm" village, since it gets good sun during the day.
Mar 30 Ascend to Lobuche; trail passes through the Sherpa memorial on the terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. Trail likely to be snow covered here.
Mar 31 Rest day in Lobuche. Lots of good day hikes in the area.
Apr 01 Hike glacial moraine to Gorak Shep, the last outpost en route to Base Camp. The route is rugged hiking on the rocky trail. Climb Kala Pattar (18,300') in the afternoon.
Apr 02 Hike to Everest Base Camp, about 17,300 ft.
Apr 03 Explore Base Camp. Venture to the base of the Khumbu Icefall.
Apr 04 Morning Puja ceremony. Explore Base Camp.
Apr 05 Long descent to Pheriche; enjoy the rich air and a good night's sleep. I will feel noticably stronger at 14,000 than I did at Base Camp.
Apr 06 Climb up Imja Khola Valley past village of Chukung (15,518').
Apr 07 Ascend to Island Peak Base Camp at Pareshaya Gyab (16,685').
Apr 8-10 Move to High Camp (17,323'), summit day (20,305 feet) and contingency day.
Apr 11 Descend from Island peak Base Camp and back up to Lobuche.
Apr 12 Trek back to Base Camp.
Apr 13 - May 31 Climb through the Khumbu Icefall several times while making acclimatization forays to Caps One, Two and Three. Aim to be fit, health and ready for a summit bid in the last two weeks of May. Watch the website for Everest Updates as to how this part of the climb will unfold.
